Galaxy performs annealing on steels and alloys to increase ductility and reduce hardness, making material more workable for the operations that follow. Galaxy is Nadcap accredited for heat treating.
Annealing can also be paired with brazing. In Galaxy’s hydrogen retort furnaces, brazing and annealing can be combined within a single controlled furnace cycle when the requirements of the assembly call for both operations.
Annealing is a thermal process that brings material to a specified temperature, holds it there for a defined soak duration, and then cools it on a controlled profile. The process increases ductility and reduces hardness, allowing the material to be formed, machined, or otherwise worked more easily. Depending on the material, annealing can also make parts magnetic after processing.
Results depend on holding each variable to the requirement: temperature, time at temperature, furnace atmosphere, and cooling rate. Galaxy establishes those parameters around the material and the customer’s specification before work begins.
Annealing can be a useful option for:
Galaxy works with customers early to review material, part geometry, and specification requirements so the thermal cycle is established around the required result. Bring us into the conversation before the process is finalized.
